Breitling World Time Application

As discussed last week, Breitling launched a Breitling World Time Application with their new website design. The Breitling World Time application is a “computing instrument that measures units or currencies that easily solve time-related calculation”.

Here is a detailed account of my adventures with the Breitling World Time Application.

Last week the Breitling World Time application caught my eye so I downloaded it from the web site to see exactly what it was and how I could use it.

After downloading I extracted the Breitling World Time application to my desktop.

After extracting I located the setup file and installed the applications to my hard rive.

Next I opened up the application and started exploring! Here’s a breakdown of the features (click on image for larger view):

Here’s an even closer look at some of the features:

Introducing Breitling Watches New Website

I ran into a pleasant surprise today, Breitling has a new website, totally redesigned from yesterday. Here are a few features that I like:

1. The Landing Page
Breitling new website’s landing page includes some links that were kind of hidden on the old site. In the top right corner you can quickly change the site language. In the top left corner there are quick links to Models, Retailers, Air Time, Technology, History, and Breitling For Bentley collection. At the bottom right corner the choices include Portfolio, Breitling World Time (more about this tomorrow), News, Contact, and the Breitling Copyright information.

2. Breitling Watch Model Display
On the old website the Breitling Models were displayed in the bottom and sometimes froze up and took up screen realestate. Now you can hover over the ‘All Models’ button and the Breitling models easily fade in and when you move the mouse it easily fades out of the interface.

3. Breitling Model Info More User Friendly
Breitling has also changed the way it gives you details about each of its models. Instead of a sometimes difficult flash interface, when you click on a model it you can easily look at the models Presentation, Versions, Technical Data, Bracelets, and the 360 degree view. Each click opens up a new menu with additional features.

Okay those are my three favorite features of the new site. However, there are two things that I wish they would have fixed:

1. The News Feature
You have to subscribe to Breitling to get upcoming news, however, you hardly ever get anything in your inbox. Breitling should feature news, products, and events on the website for easy access and to keep everyone updated.

2. Mozilla Firefox Functionality
One of my pet peeves with the Breitling website is that when using Mozilla Firefox somethings get cut off including words and pictures. That seems to have not been fixed, especially when a menu reaches out to the edges of the right, left, or bottom screen.

Famous People Who Wear Breitling Watches Part 3

In the 1st edition Famous People Who Wear Breitling Watches (FPW2BW) we discussed Gordan Ramsey, Miles Davis, Bear Grylls and Criss Angel. In Part 2 of FPW2BW we discussed an astronaut, a baseball player, a former boy band member, and famous actor.

Here are three additional famous people who wear Breitling Navitimer watches:

Dave Chapelle
Yes, the controversial yet funny man Dave Chapelle wears a Breitling Watch. Dave Chapelle is the former host and star of Comedy Central’s most popular show, The Dave Chapelle Show, and on most days can be seen wearing a Breitling Navitimer.

John Travolta
I know this isn’t a surprise since John Travolta is known for supporting Breitling. As a certified pilot with over 5,000 flight hours and owning his jumbo jet, aviation is in his blood and he wouldn’t wear any other watch. Mostly seen in the Breitling Navitimer, but he wears just about anything Breitling

Simon Cowell

American Idol bad boy judge and a music producer Simon Cowell wears a Breitling Navitimer. Simon is known for his blunt comments on American Idol and not being afraid to hurt contestant’s feelings…

Stay tuned for Part Four of Famous People Who Wear Breitling Watches.

The Breitling Chronomat Watch

The Breitling Chronomat is considered a “leader model” by Breitling. Of course, Breitling enthusiast would argue and say the leader model should be the Navitimer, however by “leader model” I think Breitling means a model that is used to base its designs off of. Maybe every watch in Breitling’s collections started off as a Breitling Chronomat watch? It’s been given the nickname “The Reference” by Breitling and its design hints that historically it has a great significance to the brand.

The Breitling Chronomat was originally created for the Frecce Tricolori Flight Team and just like aviation, has evolved and changed over the years. The heart of the watch is the Breitling Caliber 13, an accurate selfwinding chronograph. Other technical specifications of the Breitling Chronomat include:

42 hour power reserve
28,800 vibrations per hour
25 jewels
dial aperture calender
6 case version (steel, two tone, steel and gold, 18 k yellow gold, rose gold, white gold)
1,000 foot water resistance
unidirectional and ratcheted bezel
screw-locked crown with 2 gaskets
screwed in back
sapphire crystal glareproofed on each side
43.70 mm case diameter

The Rarest Breitling Navitimer Watch

Image from Navitimer.net

According to Breitling Navitimer “rules” every Breitling Navitimer watch has to have a standard movement, however the Navitimer 806 with Valjoux 72 movement has a non-standard movement. Why has Breitling decided to create this watch? Maybe it’s to make collectors lose their minds with envy with just the mention of it.

This mysterious and elusive Breitling watch was created in the early 1950’s. It was named the Navitimer 806 because it’s identical to an earlier Navitimer 806 with a standard movement. However, collectors and enthusiast were surprised to open it and find a Valjoux 72 movement.

According to Jean-Micheal, creator of www.navitimer.net:

We even do not know that if the watch had the reference 806 ! Some of the pictures I have of this watch do not show the “806″ engraving on the back. The only country where I have regularly seen some Valjoux 72 806 is Japan. Japanese are very well informed collectors and the prices of vintage pieces are very high, that perhaps explain why it is possible to find some there….No idea of the number produced, but this was not limited to few pieces, some thousands might have been produced.”

Definitely an interesting story of the Breitling Navitimer!

Breitling Emergency Watch Versus Breitling Emergency Mission Watch

Someone on Twitter asked me today what’s the difference between the Breitling Emergency and the Breitling Emergency Mission besides the obvious dial differences. Well in order to understand the difference you have to look at each watches technical specifications:

Calibers: The Breitling Emergency has a Breitling 76 Caliber and the Breitling Emergency Mission has a Breitling 73 Caliber

Movement: Both watches a have SuperQuartz(tm), thermocompenstated quartz electronic movement however, the Breitling Emergency has a 12/24 hour LCD digital display with EOL indicator and the Breitling Emergency Mission has fast time zone change capabilities

Chronograph: The Breitling Emergency has a 1/100th second, max 23 hours 59 minutes 59,999 second chronograph. The Breitling Emergency Mission has a 1/10th second, 60 minutes, 12 hour chronograph with split times

Calendar: The Breitling Emergency has a digital calendar with programmed day and date for 4 years. The Breitling Emergency Mission has a dial aperture calendar.

Case: The Breitling Emergency has a Titanium case but is also available in 18 K yellow or white gold. The Breitling Emergency Mission has a steel case.

Water Resistance: The Breitling Emergency has 3 bars of water resistance including a working transmitter while under water. The Breitling Emergency Mission has 330 feet of water resistance.

Bezel: Both Breitling watches have a bidirectional bezel but the Breitling Emergency has a compass scale bezel and the Breitling Emergency Mission has a countdown bezel.

Crown: Both watches have two gasket crowns but the Breitling Emergency has a non screw-locked crown with a integrated push piece and the Breitling Emergency Mission has a screw-locked crown.

And that’s the major differences between the Breitling Emergency Watch and the Breitling Emergency Mission Watch.

Famous People Who Wear Breitling Watches Part 2

In Famous People Who Wear Breitling Watches Part 1 we focused on Gordon Ramsey, Bear Grylls, Miles Davis, and Criss Angel. Continuing out exploration of what famous individuals wear Breitling watches, here are four more famous individuals who love the brand.

Buzz Aldrin, the astronaut and legend, wears a Breitling Emergency Watch like other explorers and adventurers. Even in his younger years his Breitling Emergency watch graced his wrist on many occasions.
